Meet the Doulas: Amber Bell

Who are the doulas who volunteer with the Bay Area Doula Project?  They’re amazing, diverse people, doing so much great work in the world, it’s hard to believe any of them has time to volunteer with us. We’ve been using this space to introduce you to many of the BADP doulas.  This week, meet Amber Bell.

Amber is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer of Guatemala, where she spent two years working in public health. While there she also established and coordinated local women’s groups with a focus on reproductive health. Amber currently works as a perinatal health educator and full spectrum doula. She is also a volunteer with the  Bay Area Doula Project where she works to coordinate monthly events on Reproductive Health. Amber also works as a Sex Ed teacher for middle schoolers at her local Unitarian Universalist church in Oakland.

Abortion is only one small part of reproductive justice. One of our favorite books, Undivided Rights, explores how that shows up and how folks have worked to make RJ real for their people. https://bookshop.org/books/undivided-rights-women-of-color-organizing-for-reproductive-justice/9781608466177

Serious question, how many times have you seen anatomy photos with Black women and Black babies in the womb? At the doctors office, medical books, anywhere?
